Meet Our Team

Michael Geis
President and Founder, CFRE, FAHP, FCEPMichael Geis has labored over 50 years in nonprofit management and capacity building. With each leadership position he assumed, he was challenged to supercharge fund development practices and results, always within ambitious time frames.
His solution was to focus on discerning which prospects revealed the greatest potential to give in the shortest amount of time. With an innate ability to detect and value characteristics that revealed a unique association with the organization, coupled with discernment of wealth potential, he built robust portfolios and coached production staff on how to convert this interest into action. Typically this involved developing individualized solicitation plans engaging natural partners that could advance the cultivation process. This effort consistently generated results that were exponentially better than previous results.
The culmination of this effort has been capsulized in Assay, which is now available for aspiring nonprofit organizations that want to catapult their fund raising achievements. Assay has the ability to synthesize your existing database, scoring characteristics and tendencies that are proven indicators of giving aptitude. Assay scores affinity or the likelihood of someone supporting your organization and through interfacing this with wealth intelligence, delivers an adjusted and more realistic assessment of your prospect’s potential.

Ben Kriegler
Prospect Research and Data ConsultantBen joined The Geis Group following 23 years at the University of Nebraska Foundation. He began working in the phonathon as a college student at the University of Nebraska and moved into Prospect Research and Analysis after graduation. Ben concluded his career at the University of Nebraska with responsibility for prospect research, prospect management, reporting/analytics, data entry/hygiene and gift processing involving nearly 30 employees.
Ben enjoys exploring the union between data and human interaction and working in fundraising has given him ample opportunities to refine his craft. Ben served during three capital campaigns with one exceeding one billion dollars. He has trained, coached and mentored over a dozen managers, which is a responsibility he covets.
He believes that philanthropy does not function well without acknowledging that it is human passion and relationships that drive giving. Simply delivering data without this in mind cheats both the donor and the institution out of the best parts of their shared mission.
Ben’s work with The Geis Group includes prospect research, data analytics and advancement services leadership. He graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and currently resides in Lincoln with his wife and three children.
